Our bodies produce scars as a natural bandaid after being cut. But, they can become problematic when they are painful, itchy, raised or inhibit movement and function. Scars can be assessed by color (normal or pink/red/brown), texture (soft or firm) and height (flat or raised). Research shows using silicone gel twice a day for 2-3 minutes for 90 days can help normalize scars to skin color, soft and flat while also reducing itching and discomfort. It can be started after wound closure (5-10 days) and works through hydration, creating a barrier that prevents bacterial invasion and normalizing collagen formation which helps breakdown excessive collagen.

*Although rare, if signs of allergic reaction are seen, discontinue use.
